Acupuncture is a healing modality that has been used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), for thousands of years. Acupuncture can be used in many ways to treat different problems in our body. TCM philosophy describes our health as dependent on the body’s energy known as “Qi” (“chee”). Qi is supposed to move smoothly, harmoniously, and balanced through our body along channels called meridians. Qi is where the term “Yin and Yang” comes from; equal and opposite properties. It is when the Yin and Yang becomes disrupted and unbalanced where problems arise. Many different things can cause this: stress, anxiety, physical and emotional trauma, grief, the weather, poor nutrition, anger, and fear to name a few. By inserting acupuncture needles into specific points along these meridians in the body, Qi can be restored by stimulating the body’s natural physical and emotional balance. In the 1970’s Dr. Joseph Wong began to research and lab test anatomical acupuncture. He wanted to see what the acupuncture needle was disrupting in our tissues when inserted into the skin. The acupuncture needle stimulates fascia, nerves, deep neural receptors (which relates to helping with “hormone balance”), and muscle tissue, which is why acupuncture is so effective in treating many physical problems as well as emotional.

Thank you for visiting! Here’s a little bit about my journey that led me to where I am today…

I started in the health and wellness industry 15 years ago as a group and resistance training instructor. I graduated from The University of Winnipeg with my Ba, concentration in Kinesiology. Soon after, I took the course to receive designation as as Certified Personal Trainer through the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology (the highest personal training standard in Canada).

After a few years as a personal trainer, I realized I wanted more. I was already finding myself working through mobility, injury and rehab challenges with my clients, and doing my best to help and treat them with the knowledge I had. But I needed to know more. I decided to head back to school to become a massage therapist…and my mind was blown! I learned so much.

Now I am able to combine my knowledge as a Kinesiologist, former Personal Trainer and now as an RMT, to provide my clients with a well rounded and very specific treatment and in home treatment plan.

My favourite techniques in treatment include AMR (Active Muscle Release), Cupping Therapy, Ischemic Compression (Trigger Points), and slow Muscle Stripping.

As an RMT I want to find the balance between clinical treatment, and mental relaxation…we all have things to work on but need a little relaxation too!
